Hormone Replacement Therapy

Hormone Replacement Therapy or HRT drugs have been
prescribed and used to reduce symptoms of menopause and to
reduce incidents of osteoporosis. HRT drugs (Premarin®,
Prempro™, Premphase® or certain combinations of Premarin® and
other hormone drugs) have been linked to increased rates of
strokes, blood clots, breast and ovarian cancer, heart
attacks, cardiovascular disease, and death.

A product of Wyeth-Ayerst, Prempro™ was the subject of a major
clinical study conducted by the National Heart, Lung and Blood
Institute, a division of the National Institutes of Health.
The study, consisting of more than 16,000 women, was halted on May
31, 2002. The Data and Safety Monitoring Board noted significant
increases in heart problems and breast cancer among those women
who were given Prempro.
The study determined that women who were given Prempro were more
likely to develop serious problems compared to those in the
placebo group. The statistics of side effects are alarming:

increase in blood clots

increase in incidents of cardiovascular disease
In 2002, a study published in the Journal of the American Medical
Association linked long-term exposure to Premarin® (a product of
Wyeth-Ayerst) with a significant increase in ovarian cancer.
NOTE: If you
or a loved one has used Prempro, promptly consult your doctor for
an evaluation. You should not stop taking Prempro unless
your doctor instructs you to do so.
